Graphic design

spectrum: a history of queer design & activism

Project statement

The objective of this project was to design a series of promotional materials for an exhibition celebrating the inextricably linked history of Queer design and Queer activism. My goal was to create a bright, clean, and exciting visual identity for the exhibition, beginning with an attention-grabbing title. The biggest challenge I faced was to utilize a consistent color palette that embodied the accepted and understood rainbow flag motif but also allowed room for the exhibition aesthetic and design. By centering the title treatment around the interaction of color and shapes, I was able to integrate the rainbow symbolism and embody the message of design’s importance in the visual identity of the Queer community.

About the Artist

I’m a Graphic Design major with a Web Design concentration. As a non-traditional student who returned to school to pursue a new career, I’m excited by all things design. Focused on a future in a branding agency, I strive to create thoughtful, thorough visual identities with an acute attention to detail that results in cohesive and extensive design strategies. My diverse creative interests range from design to illustration to photography to creative writing. I love mid-century modern interiors and am constantly pining over bookshelves. Storytelling is the cornerstone of my creative work.
